Celebrating July 4 in Las Vegas, mechanic Hank (Frederic Forrest) and travel agent Frannie (Teri Garr) break off their five-year relationship, intending to pursue their idealized partners - Hank going with showgirl Leila (Nastassja Kinski) and Frannie with musician Ray (Raul Julia). Things don’t work out well in that department for either couple, but hey, it’s a romance, and a happy ending is mandatory. Though treated as a big deal before its release, “One From the Heart” today is largely forgotten, save for the terrific songs composed for the film by Tom Waits.
