He was a board member of the Maple Hill Manor and volunteered his musical ministry there. He was an elder of the Calvin United Church, a member of their choir, and their supply organist. He contributed to a weekly column, “Science for Fun”, in the Community Press and led a community science fun club for grade 4-6 students. He was the first recipient of the coveted APICS-Northern Telecom Science Teaching Award in 1985.Īfter his retirement in 1987, He became the science volunteer at the Joy Program at Mount Carmel Elementary School in New Waterford, a special program where he enjoyed teaching science to the elementary students. The Queen’s Silver and Diamond Jubilee medals, the Domtar Chemical Teaching Award from the Chemical Institute of Canada. He received many distinguished awards for his contributions to the scientific arenas-three Shell Merit Fellowships. When, in 1970, Breton Education Centre was opened, he was appointed head of the science department and offered and conducted a superlative science program there. Martin came to New Waterford in 1967 with his family and taught at Central High School. At the age of 32 he took his young family to Ethiopia where he taught for 14 years. Martin was a life long learner and educator. He was born in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, India. Survivors include her significant other, Mike Miller her children: Samantha, Marissa, Lauren and Jacob Stelpflug her parents, Lewis Hines and Barbara Bond her siblings, Rachel (Matthew) Owens and Sarah (Travis) Kirschbaum nieces and nephews: Hailey and Tyler Hines, Austin and Haily Owens, and Zayn and Haven Kirschbaum her former husband, Michael Stelpflug other relatives and many friends. She dearly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and hosting a good party. Sheila enjoyed motorcycle rides, dog sitting, crafting, and loved the summer months and being at the river. She was employed at Kinney, Urban, and Kussmaul for several years and most recently with Czajkowski, Higgins, & Tisdale, S.C. On April 29, 1989, Sheila was united in marriage to Michael F. She furthered her education at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, earning a degree in Business Administration Finance. Sheila graduated from Lancaster High School in 1986. She was born on August 11, 1968, in Lancaster, the daughter of Lewis and Barbara (Wentz) Hines. Stelpflug, age 50, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, WI.
